NTAK & VIZA

NTAK and VIZA: what reporting is mandatory?

Running a short-term rental in Hungary doesn't end at check-in: data must go to the national tourism system every day, and every guest's ID has to be scanned on arrival. Here's what the law requires and who it applies to.

What is NTAK?

NTAK is Hungary's National Tourism Data Supply Centre — every accommodation must be registered with it and must transmit turnover and statistical data daily, in anonymised form. Reporting is only possible through NTAK-capable property management software; private accommodation may also use the free official app ('Az Én Vendégszobám'). The activity must additionally be entered in the district notary's register, and private accommodation is capped at 8 rooms and 16 beds.

And VIZA?

VIZA is the closed guest information database. Since 1 September 2021 every guest — regardless of age — must have their photo ID (national ID card, passport or driving licence) scanned with a digital document reader, and the data is transmitted encrypted to VIZA. The host keeps the data in its own records until the last day of the first year following collection; VIZA holds it for up to two years.

This is a daily duty, not a one-off registration

Registration is the easy part. After that, data goes out every day and an ID is scanned at every arrival — including while you're at work, on holiday, or living abroad. The district notary checks that these obligations are met. Most owners didn't buy an apartment to do this; it's the part worth handing over.

Frequently asked questions

Is NTAK registration required for private accommodation?

What software is needed for the reporting?
NTAK-capable property management software. Private accommodation may also use the free official app provided for this purpose ('Az Én Vendégszobám').
Does every guest's ID have to be scanned?
Yes — every guest regardless of age, using a digital document reader and a photo identity document. The data is transmitted encrypted to the VIZA system.
How long is guest data retained?
The host keeps it until the last day of the first year following collection; VIZA holds the data for up to two years.

NTAK and VIZA reporting is always handled by us

These two are not optional modules in our plan: for the apartments we manage, the daily transmission and the guest ID checks are ours to run — statutory deadlines included.
